2. FIELDTRIPS
Field trips are obligatory and an essential part of the course.
1. The "Garden of Art", LSU: Tue., January 26, 1999.
Aim: azimuths, simple mapping techniques, orientation in the field
2. Tunica Hills, Mississippi: Sat., February 20, 1999.
Aim: Mapping simple structures in the field
Prerequisites: understanding of strike, dip, orientation skills. Labs
3. Tunica Hills, Mississippi: March 6, 1999 or March 20, 1999, but not both!
Aim: Making a contour map using a theodolite and mapping simple structures in the field
5. Alabama: Thursday April 1 - Sunday April 4 1999.
Aim: Look at rocks and map geological structures.
3. ASSIGNMENTS FOR LECTURES, LABS AND FIELDTRIPS Course lecture and lab assignments are due at the beginning of the second class period after they are handed.
Field trips are accompanied by written assignments due at the beginning of class on the dates specified in the course outline.
Please hand in your assignments on time. Late assignments will NOT be accepted for grading.
Please, contact your instructors if you foresee any problems in meeting the requirements of this class.
4. EXAMS There are two (2) Midterm exams and one Final exam on both the lectures and laboratory exercises.
There are no makeup exams. The Final exam is comprehensive.
Final Grade
Each student's final grade (100%) will be calculated as follows:
10% from Lecture Midterm exams + 10% from Lab Midterm exams
20% from lab homework +
20 % for field assignments.
15 % for Final Lecture exam and 25% for Final Lab exam
Letter grades will reflect the following final marks:
A 90-100, B 75-89.4, C 60-74.4, D 50-59.4, F less than 50.
