Scholarships

A variety of scholarships are available for Geology majors. The following is a partial list of scholarships. Additional scholarships are pending and will be added as they are available.

  • H. V. Anderson Endowment (1 undergraduate student, awarded alternate years; $1000) - student studying paleontology; based on academic ability; awarded by the Dept. of Geology and Geophysics
  • Harriet Cameron Belchic Scholarship (1 female undergraduate) - full scholarship to the senior LSU field camp; GPA must be >3.0; awarded by the Dept. of Geology and Geophysics.
  • General Geology Scholarship Fund (multiple awards to undergraduate and/or graduate students; generally $1000) - funding sources include BP and Texaco; geology majors with >3.0 GPA; awarded by the Dept. of Geology and Geophysics
  • Geology Summer Minority Program for freshman Field Camp and fall semester freshman year; awards include full scholarship with tuition, fees, etc.; no GPA requirements, but must have passing grades
  • Leo W. Hough Geology School Fund (1 undergraduate at $1000) - full-time student with >2.5 GPA and with financial need, multi-year is possible; awarded by the Dept. of Geology and Geophysics
  • George May Endowment (2 awards at $1000) - Freshman geology majors with > 3.0 GPA; awarded by the Dept. of Geology and Geophysics
  • John Metayer Memorial Fund (1 award at $500) - junior or senior geology major with > 2.5 GPA, can be used for Geology Field Camp; based on financial need and academic record; awarded by the Dept. of Geology and Geophysics
  • New Orleans Geological Society (NOGS) Jules and Olga Braunstein Memorial for outstanding sophomore ($1500), junior ($1500) and senior ($2000) - nominated by the Department; candidates submitted to and awarded by the New Orleans Geological Society at an awards luncheon
