Student Web Page Policy

Web Page Policy

All students are encouraged to set up and maintain a web page. These web pages are an excellent way to communicate your departmental activity to others, both inside and outside the university. Users will be able to advertise their studies, research and experience to other students, researchers, employers, and the general public. We hope that these web pages will contribute to student careers, studies, and cultural life.

What to do!

  • Please email support@geol.lsu.edu to setup your web page. Your directory will be your PAWS id.
  • There must be exactly one file named either index.htm or index.html. This page is the first to load as the website is visited.
  • The student's name must be visible on the index page.
  • The student assumes responsibility for content on or linked to their page; this must follow University and Departmental rules.
  • Users must abide by Copyright laws including securing permission to use material they did not create or write.
  • The webpage may contain up to 50 MB worth of content (including all media files). If more space is required, request for an increase should be sent to support@geol.lsu.edu
  • Students are also advised to carefully consider the public nature of information they place on the Internet through the World Wide Web as the web page will be available to anyone and to search engines.
  • All materials in a student's web page, including links to other sites, should be in good taste.
  • Password will be same as the PAWS password.Keep your password confidential!

Things NOT to do!

  • Users may not sell, promote or portray, on their web page or through links, any product, activity, information or service unrelated to the Department.
  • Students may not use their web pages for fundraising or for commercial activities such as running or advertising a business.
  • Users should not post their contact info (apart from their e-mail address) on their pages for security reasons.
  • Users should not post any pornography, private or commercial videos or any MP3 content on the site.
