TIM'S TECTONICS

Before I try to explain the earth, you may want to get a more professional source for the information you want. So, if you doubt my knowledge (and maybe you should), go ahead and click HERE, and leave me alone!

One of the first things to learn about with regard to the earth is the subject of plate tectonics. This is a geologic formation of the earth's crust that is divided into a bunch oh of pieces. These plates correspond to almost all of the earth's earthquakes and volcanoes. When these pieces rub together, earthquakes occur, as well as volcanoes. For a look at some of the crustal formations of the earth, hit THIS! That was pretty neat, huh? As you can tell, these plates are HUGE! They're always moving, too, so there's usually some kinda grinding going on somewhere. Some of 'em act pretty stupid, though. For instance, there are a few plates that move toward each other (called converging plates) all the time. They never stop, either, so when they smash into each other, they say to each other, "Get outta my way!", and they either crumple up and make mountains, or one of them gets shoved under the other one. Either way, all that grinding is gonna make 'em both shake, and that's where you get earthquakes.

Finally, if you really don't trust me, try THIS one! I saved the best for last!
