What's there?/ What to expect?

The Clark Creek Natural Area is a beautiful forested area consisting of more than 700 acres of steep terrain, flowing creeks and a wide variety of plants and animals. The forest is largely untamed and extremely wild. Beechwood and magnolia trees are abundant. Also inhabiting the area, are several species of migratory birds, poisonous snakes, and several threatened and endangered animals and plants. The Clark Creek Nature Area was founded in 1978 by the Mississippi Wildlife Heritage Committee, Wilkinson County, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, International Paper and David Bramlette.

Because of the rough hilly terrain one should be both physicaly and medically fit before hiking in the area. You must provide your own supply of drinking water and carry out any disposable items or picnic waste. There are no toilet facilities provided in the area. Just before you reach the parking area and trail head is the small Pond Store where refreshments can be obtained (NO public restrooms).

The Pond Store

The Pond Store, which was originaly built in 1881 is located across from a small pond that was used as a watering hole for traders en route to Fort Adams. The store offers a variety of food, drinks and a wide selection of homemade jellies.
