| Overview
Our Corporate Recruiting Services in the Department of Geology & Geophysics are a wonderful opportunity for employers to build a relationship with our department and our students.. If you are interested in hiring for full-time or internship positions, the information on this website will be a great deal of help to you.
There are two different services companies utilize to recruit students for jobs and internships: 1) On-Campus Interviewing and 2) Job Postings.
On-Campus Interviewing
We offer four options for scheduling interviews in the fall semester: pre-selects only; pre-selects & fill-ins; open; and room-only. You will have to choose only one option for your interview schedules. Please call Stacey Halphen, at 225-578-3426 to schedule an interview date.
Pre-selects Only
The pre-selects only schedule allows recruiters to review submitted resumes prior to their visit to campus, so they can select candidates to be interviewed before they arrive. Students who have been pre-selected then have the opportunity to sign up for interview slots. Any remaining time slots will not be filled.
Pre-selects & Fill-ins
The pre-selects & fill-ins schedule allows recruiters to review submitted resumes prior to their visit to campus, so they can select candidates to be interviewed before they arrive. Students who are pre-selected then have the opportunity to sign up first for interview slots. Any remaining time slots are then opened to other interested students.
Open
The open schedule allows LSU students and alumni who are interested in the organization to sign up for interviews on a first-come, first-served basis.
Room-only
If you choose a room-only schedule format, you will select your interview candidates from an available source, such as resumes collected at a Career & Graduate School Expo, resume drops, job postings, resume referrals, or contact with student groups. A room-only allows you to contact students directly and schedule interviews yourself after reserving your interview date with our recruiting coordinator. You must turn in an interview schedule to the recruiting coordinator prior to your visit. All interviews scheduled must be with LSU students or alumni, ONLY. By scheduling a room-only format, recruiters will not have access to the departmental pool of resumes and you will also be responsible for setting up your own Infosession.
Both pre-select schedules and the open schedule operate during our designated 9-week recruiting period. Interested students and alumni will submit resumes 2-weeks before the recruiting period officially begins. These resumes will then be posted on the LSU Geology & Geophysics website, which recruiters will have access to with their specified username and password. Recruiters with pre-select schedules will be given a deadline to submit their pre-select choices. This allows students to sign up for interview slots prior to the recruiter’s arrival on campus.
Length of Interviews
After setting up your date, you will choose how long you would like each interview to last. The most popular schedule format is set up for 30-minute interviews. You may also choose to have 45-minute interviews or 60-minute interviews.
30-minute interviews
13 interviews; 8:15am-4:45pm; two 15-minute breaks; 90-minute lunch
45-minute interviews
9 interviews; 8:15am-5:00pm; two 15-minute breaks; 90-minute lunch
60-minute interviews
7 interviews; 8:15am-5:00pm; no breaks; 105 minute lunch
Many employers choose to have more than one room for interviews. You are welcome to request multiple rooms as well as request multiple days. All reservations are based upon availability.

Reporting Job Offers
Once you have progressed to the stage of having extended job offers to LSU students, please consider providing data to the LSU Department of Geology & Geophysics on the offers you have extended to LSU geology students. With this data, we are able to both provide data to the National Association of Colleges and Employers for inclusion in its national Salary Survey and calculate LSU-specific job offer data for comparison to the national data. We also share this information with the LSU Office of Career Services.
