| Dear students:
Any interested parties in going? Department could lend a van.
The Distinguished Instructor Short Course (DISC) is an eight-hour, one-day
short course on a topic of current and wide-spread interest. Sponsored by
both the SEG and EAGE, it is presented at over 20 locations each year around
the world.
The instructor is a prominent geophysicists
whose work and presentation appeal to a wide audience ranging from students
to professionals near the end of their careers. The 2004 DISC, presented by
Dr. Paul Weimer, is entitled "Petroleum Systems of Deep-Water Settings".
The upcoming SEG DISC, "Petroleum Systems of Deep-Water Settings", is being
offered on October 21st at the Shell Annex in New Orleans. The course is
free to students and will allow students who are not Student SEG members to
become SEG members at no cost. The SEG requires that student non-members
fill out a student SEG membership form and obtain a advising faculty
signature. Obtain a SEG membership form from the SEG website at www.seg.org
under For Students - Student Membership. The course cost to regular SEG
members and SGS members is only $35. The course manual itself sells for $66
at the SEG Bookmart and will only be offered to SEG members following
completion of the DISC tour in December.
