Most of the biotite studies took advantage of the extensive data set from metapelitic rocks of western Maine, a collaborative study organized by C. V. Guidotti. The compositional data was used to define the systematic changes of biotite chemistry with metamorphic grade. This data set is also being used to define the amounts of Ti that will substitute in biotite as a function of temperature and biotite chemistry. Another biotite (and amphibole) study examines high Cl-bearing biotite in granulite facies ironstones and has implications for the metamorphic fluids.
