Silt Sediments

In this scanning electron microscope picture, silt-sized particles smaller than 0.02mm in size and the cement holding the silt-sized particles together can be seen very clearly. The cement appears as a filmy coating over the grains in the central part of this photo. The grains with sharp edges are not covered with cement, indicating that the process of cementation does not include all of the sedimentary particles in the specimen.
